Ice creams continue to stomp in our gastronomic habits and especially in these hot months, they are in the number one position in desserts and snacks.
So much so that the data speak for themselves, in Spain 143.38 million kilograms of ice cream were consumed in the past year, which leads to an annual increase of 5.8%, according to a source from the Food Consumption Panel in Households of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing and Food (MAPA).
Traditional flavours such as chocolate and strawberry are the most chosen, both in all ranges of ice cream, dairy and non-dairy.
As for dairy ice cream launches, 50% have been chocolate-based, chocolate, caramel or coffee. Fruit flavours are also in trend, and strawberry is the main figure, with 9% of product launches in 2020. On the other hand, in vegan ice cream the milk chocolate flavour is the winner, with a 23% of launches.
It should be noted that in dairy ice creams that the flavours that have obtained the fastest growing between 2016 and 2020, have been cheese with an average annual growth of 60%, followed by berries with 40% and finally Matcha Tea with a 36% percentage. However, in vegan ice cream, the fastest growing flavours in this same period of time have been salted caramel with an average growth of 72%, peanut butter with 64% and banana with a share of 57% respectively, according to a report by Innnova Market Insights.
