Plant proteins continue to win popularity due to the constant demand for factors so significant to our society such as health, variety in the diet, sustainability and taste of these food products. Six out of ten consumers globally chose plant-based protein products when buying alternatives to meat or dairy. The reasons why consumers consider these sustainable products are 54% for being healthier, 35% for the variety they bring to the diet, 32% say that they are more respectful for the planet and 19% for taste better.
Concerning the average annual growth in food and beverage launches, consumer claims for plant protein increases up to 45%, followed by vegan claims with a growth of 21%, and finally vegetarian claims increasing by 9%, respectively.
Food products that replace meat and traditional dairy products based on faster growing plant proteins respond to ready meals with a +218%, finger foods with a +166% increase, pizzas by 160 % increase, followed by dips with 159% and finally iced coffee with 155%, according to a study by Innova Market Insights.
