Naturalness is a trend: citrus fruits and berries increase their presence on the shelves. The COVID-19 health crisis has led consumers to choose natural profiles, linked to perceived healthy attributes.
Cosmos is aware that consumers seek naturalness because this attribute is directly related to health and well-being.
According to a study by Innova Market Insights, 63 percent of European consumers indicate a preference for natural, compared to 29% who consider naturalness as a selective characteristic when choosing a flavour.
Taking the current freezing winter into consideration and with the present latent pandemic, the consumer associates even further increase, citrus fruits as protectors of our immune system, showing special interest in fresh seasonal fruits, among which highlights Valencia oranges, Sicilian lemons or other citrus fruits such as Japanese yuzu or Chinese calamansi. It is therefore expected that this popularity will continue to grow in this year that we have just started.
These citrus flavours are included in consumers’ diets in both food and beverage formats, in order to meet these individual health and wellness goals.
At Cosmos we work on the development of flavours with these citrus profiles for the different categories of products in which we are specialized, Beverages, Dairy, Bakery and Confectionary.
